Nicholls' Patent Automatic Shut-Up Seats

Nothing particularly funny about this from the Era 1894, but I love the art-work, so here it is (click to zoom) ...

  1. The artwork is indeed good but more important, perhaps, from an historical perspective is the fact that these folding seats are obviously still regarded as an innovation here when we take them for granted, finding them in theatres and other public places and even in tube trains and taxis.

    We tend to forget that all the useful things we use without a second thought had once to be invented.
